HB TECHNOLOGIES Expands Activities in the Field of Blood Donation
We are starting a collaboration with Grawunder Software Engineering and will take over the further development and support of the Nadis software for the Bavarian Red Cross Blood Donation Service (BSD).
HB Technologies AG (HBT, Tübingen) and Grawunder Software Engineering (GSE, Kassel) are joining forces to advance the further development of the Nadis software. Nadis is a laboratory information and management system (LIMS) specifically designed to meet the requirements of blood donation services. Developed and operated by GSE, the software is used by several blood donation services in Germany and Switzerland. Nadis digitally maps the processes involved in NAT screening of blood donations, has been reliably used for several decades, and serves as the central component in the time-critical release of test results.
Since 2018, HB Technologies has been developing the Calliope software for the fully automated NAT screening system PoET on behalf of the Gesellschaft zur Forschung, Entwicklung und Distribution von Diagnostika im Blutspendewesen mbH (GFE). Through this work, HBT has gained extensive expertise in standards-compliant software development in accordance with IEC 62304, as well as practical experience with blood donation processes. Starting in February 2025, HBT will take over the further development and support of Nadis at the BRK Blood Donation Service in Wiesentheid.
“We have been indirectly involved in blood donation for more than seven years through our development of the software for PoET, which is also used by the BSD. We are now expanding our activities to include the Nadis LIMS, where test results are released. In doing so, we contribute our combined expertise in software for in vitro diagnostics (IVD) and process software. We expect strong synergies that will benefit our customers while further deepening our expertise in blood donation,” says Dr. Steffen Hüttner, CEO of HBT.
“We are delighted to have found a reliable partner in HB Technologies to make Nadis fit for the future,” adds Dr. Marijke Weber-Schehl, Head of Quality Control at BSD.
About the Bavarian Red Cross Blood Donation Service (BSD)
The BSD was founded in 1953 by the Bavarian Red Cross with the mission of ensuring the supply of blood products throughout Bavaria. It operates as a non-profit limited liability company. As a modern pharmaceutical organization, BSD is an active partner within the Bavarian healthcare system. With more than 700 dedicated employees, over 200 freelance donation physicians, and nearly 8,000 volunteers from 72 BRK district associations, BSD organizes approximately 4,000 mobile and 1,100 stationary blood donation appointments each year.
